If a snake visited your house, what would you do? I have never imagined I would have to face that situation, but I went through it when I was 8-years old. My family lived in a rural area, a fishing village, surrounded by rice fields. In the summer, it’s hot outside. Many animal visitors come from the field every day, but usually not snakes. I will never forget how scared I was when a snake came into my house.
That day, I was playing in front of my house while my mother was cooking in the kitchen. I suddenly saw a snake coming toward me. I backed off instinctively and turned my back to run into my house. It was a snake with a black triangle pattern on its head, which usually means the snake is dangerous. I tried to close the door but I gave up, because the snake followed me into the house. I backed off again and started screaming. My mother appeared after she heard me screaming.

I stood behind my mother immediately and tightly gripped the cook’s apron which covered her stomach. I could feel that she was scared, too. She took a broom from the corner of the room to protect me. The snake tried to attack us. My mother used the broom to stop it. It didn’t seem to work. My mother called loudly to my father and my brothers for help.
When my father and my brothers became aware of what was happening, they quickly found tools to catch the snake. My father held a net, and my brothers had sticks. They worked together carefully. After a while, the snake was caught and nobody was hurt.
In the end, we decided to let it go in the field. Although my mother and I were very scared, we were happy that the snake was still alive. It is the reality of rural life. I enjoy living in a rural setting in spite of my encounter with a snake.
