Independence Day in India

India commemorates Independence from the British Empire on the 15th of August 1947. Independence Day is one of the biggest holidays in India. It is celebrated every year on the 15th of August with great zeal.


Preparations for Independence Day festivities start about a month in advance. Schools and colleges start arrangements in July for shows, competitions, debates and other similar activities. Local park managements arrange for festivals and fireworks. Entrance to park festivities is free to the public, various social organizations also start preparation for community programs well in advance. The television media also prepares to broadcast Independence Parade with the Armed Forces Live. Various special talk shows and interviews are broadcasted. Patriotic movies are usually telecasted in the afternoon. Patriotic Songs are played all day on the streets and festival places.


On the day of the festivities people are seen decorating their houses with long strings of paper flags. Business and school buildings are also decorated, streets and shops are also decorated and attracting a lot of visitors. Independence Day festivities include carnivals in local parks and also at local schools. People visit national memorial sites. Due to the large number of people the streets and at shops, vehicles are allowed to park for free in the streets just for Independence Day.


On Independence Day people are filled with patriotic emotions. Various programs are conducted out of love for the country. Various organizations arrange for donation drives to take care of the needs of veterans. They also arrange various community services, where people from all walks of life are encourages to participate. Special prayers are said for the prosperity of the country. People proudly wear the national attire and colors, green, white and orange. They take part in peaceful processions, hold flags, and display the national pride.


Pakistan celebrates its independence day on the 14th of August. Both countries got separated after the British Empire announced Independence to United India. I conclusion, people look forward to the Independence Day in India. It will not be incorrect to say that Independence Day celebrations are the best in the country.
