Interviewing for a job is one of the most difficult and stressful situations that we will all have to face.

You have a few minutes to briefly describe everything you stand for. For example, you have to talk about what you are there for, about your experience and on top of that, the interviewer will ask you some specific questions, some of which you may not be expecting.

The most important things that you have to be aware of when you have an interview are:

- preparation

- appearance and

- showing interest in the job you're applying for.

First, preparation is key. Take time to learn more about the company and the position. Check their website - this might help you guess what kind of questions you are going to receive. Prepare what you want to say during the interview. It is a good idea to practice by asking yourself some questions. Think about your greatest strengths and weaknesses, your most significant work or school experiences, your future plans and your ideal job. Work on your resume by organizing it and making it brief (you don’t have to explain every single thing in detail). Additionally, it is very important to review your resume and think about how your experiences match the requirements of the job you’re applying for.

Second, your appearance (how you look) is of critical importance. From my experience, the interviewer will look at how you are dressed, how you smell and how confident you appear to be. Keep smiling and give the interviewer your full attention. 80% of people feel anxious before and during their interview. This is normal! You will be asked a lot of questions and you MIGHT feel that are being attacked by the employer, but you have to keep in mind that the employer wants to get to know you and is looking for an employee. In other words, you have to have some self-confidence.

Third, showing interest is also one of the most important steps during the interview. For instance, you have to show that you have seriously thought about this career and this company by asking intelligent questions about the position. For example, by asking about the company or asking about work conditions.

From my experience, these are the most important three steps that you have to be aware of before and during a job interview.

It is also important to thank the interviewer for taking the time to speak with you and let them know that you are interested in the position.

Additional advice: Remember that it is not the end of the world if you didn’t succeed in getting the job! At least you tried and you did your best. You also learned a lot about yourself, about your weakness and your strengths.
